Spontaneous Rupture of Splenic Hemangioma in a Neonate

چکیده
Spleen vascular tumors such as hemangiomas, albeit rare, can present during neonatal period with unexplained circulatory shock. We present a case of a newborn with refractory hypovolemic shock and acute abdomen that underwent emergency splenectomy due to spontaneous rupture of a splenic hemangioma.

Spontaneous rupture of a giant hepatic hemangioma. Sequential treatment with preoperative transcatheter arterial embolization and conservative hepatectomy.
Hemangioma is the most common benign tumor of the liver and it is often asymptomatic. Spontaneous rupture of liver hemangiomas is a rare but potentially lethal complication. Emergent hepatic resection has been the treatment of choice but carries high operative morbidity and mortality. Recently, preoperative transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) has been used successfully for the management ...
متن کاملSplenic rupture in a premature neonate.
Splenic injuries are very rare in neonates. We report a case of splenic injury in a premature neonate, highlighting the importance of a high-index suspicion in early recognition of this rare but potentially fatal intra-abdominal injury. We also review the literature on possible aetiologies and mechanism of splenic injury, as well as its management. This is the first reported case of a very low-...
متن کاملSpontaneous rupture of a giant hemangioma of the liver.
Hemangiomas are frequent benign tumors of the liver. Symptoms (abdominal pain and fullness) are mostly seen in giant lesions. Rupture is the most severe complication, can occur spontaneously, with intraperitoneal bleeding, in 1-4% of hemangiomas and has been described in about 30 cases in the international literature with a high mortality (about 60%). This complication is the principal indicati...
متن کاملHemoperitoneum After Spontaneous Rupture of Liver Tumor: Results of Surgical Treatment
Five cases of massive hemoperitoneum caused by spontaneous rupture of liver tumors, collected during a 27-year period, are reported. Four patients had a primary liver malignancy and one patient a liver cyst with hemangioma. Initial symptoms were obscure and hemoperitoneum was suspected pre-operatively in only one patient. At operation, a mean of 3100 ml of blood was found in the abdomen. Hemost...
متن کاملCo-existence of a giant splenic hemangioma and multiple hepatic hemangiomas and the potential association with the use of oral contraceptives: a case report
INTRODUCTION Hepatic and splenic hemangiomas are common benign tumors that mainly affect female patients. Giant splenic hemangiomas are extremely rare, especially when correlated with multiple hepatic hemangiomas. Pathogenetic mechanisms between hemangiomas and oral contraceptives, as well as therapeutic approaches, are analyzed in this case report, in particular for the management of synchrono...
